Writing: A Craft Workshop to Free the Heart and Mind

A 6-week writing workshop
June 13 – July 25, 2024
(no class July 4)
Thursdays, 10:30–12:00pm Pacific Time, on Zoom

During this six week writing workshop, we will focus on various elements of the craft that not only improve our writing but also allow us to transform our lives. As our skill in the craft of writing develops, we are more able to see our life and the lives of others with empathy, understanding and wisdom.

Each week I will give a brief teaching about a particular craft element, followed by a prompt. You will write for about 20 minutes and then meet with a colleague in a breakout room to read your writing aloud and receive supportive feedback. We will focus on character arc, plot development, narrative arc, place as character, the expansion and contraction of time, scene versus summary and more. You will be invited to join a cohort group of three or four people to meet one time during the week and practice what we focused on in the live zoom session (optional).

All sessions will be live on Zoom and recorded. In the event you miss a session or want to review what we did, you can watch the video, which will be made available 1–2 days after the session.

6 weeks for $225
