How Storytelling Can Change Our Lives

An 8-week writing workshop with Nina Wise
April 11 – May 30
Thursdays, 4:30–6:00pm Pacific Time, on Zoom

In this workshop you will learn practical tools that will transform your storytelling whether you are writing for the page, the stage, or as a personal healing practice.

When we learn to tell our stories well, our lives change. We begin to see our lives, one another and the world around us in a new light. As our understanding of  the craft or writing deepens, we gain deeper insight and all manner of revelations arise. In this way, the craft of storytelling is not only an art form but is also a spiritual practice.

During this 8-week workshop, we will focus on a variety of elements that make up the craft of writing. Each session will include a presentation on a particular element, generative exercises, and time to read your work aloud in breakout rooms.

It is this combination of learning, practicing and sharing in a safe and supportive environment that has proven to be so transformative in my workshops.

"Nina’s teaching is like a symphony or an intricate dance. It is layered and all the parts work together to guide the student into her own creative expression. I have taken many writing workshops, and I teach writing, but Nina taught me how to go further in and express the truth in a deeply real and interesting way.”
— Suzanne, Writer, Berkeley

SOME OF THE ISSUES WE WILL FOCUS ON ARE:

How to develop our characters
Plot, causality and tension
The power of place
Finding the heart of our story
Letting the action tell the story
The profound nature of the mundane

All sessions will be live on Zoom and recorded. In the event you miss a session or want to review what we did, you can watch the video, which will be made available 1–2 days after the session.
